Waarom naar Australië reizen?

Australië trekt zoveel mensen aan met goede reden: van de outback en de hemel vol met sterren (je kunt de Melkweg zien), naar Karijni, het mooiste nationale park vol watervallen, naar Byron Bay, een surfstadje met geweldige muziek en heerlijk eten, naar Cairns, de toegangspoort tot het Great Barrier rif. Welke kust je besluit te bezoeken of welke stad je kiest om in te beginnen, Australië is super divers. Veel bezoekers denken dat we hier altijd zomer hebben, maar het is een groot eiland en hangt het er maar helemaal van af in welke staat je bent. In New South Wales kun je bijvoorbeeld het hoogste berggebied van Australië bezoeken (Mount Kosciuszko) waar je kunt wandelen, snowboarden of skiën.

Om je te inspireren (hoop ik) en om je reizen gemakkelijker te maken, zal ik een aantal van de hoogtepunten in Australië noemen. En er zijn veel! Ik kan ze niet allemaal beschrijven omdat het veel te veel tijd kost om te lezen en nog meer tijd om dan een keuze te maken. Dutchie Downunder

Ik wilde Australië al sinds mijn twaalfde bezoeken. Ik heb een groot deel van mijn jeugd doorgebracht aan boord van een binnenvaartschip (een schip van 80 meter dat voornamelijk werd gebruikt op rivieren en kanalen) en bezocht Duitsland, Frankrijk en België. Dit moet mijn liefde voor reizen hebben veroorzaakt.

In 2008 bezocht ik Australië voor de eerste keer en ik hield meteen van dit prachtige land. In 2010 kwam ik terug met het idee om hier 6 maanden te zijn, waarna ik terug zou keren naar mijn “normale leven” in Nederland. Dat is nooit gebeurd en tegenwoordig kan ik Australië mijn thuis noemen. Ik heb op verschillende plaatsen gewoond, van een dorpse bar in het binnenland van Perth tot een veebedrijf in de outback, naar de tropische omgeving van Cairns. Maar ook in Sydney, Darwin en Byron heb ik veel tijd besteed.
